THE GRAALIANS MINECRAFT SERVER IS GOING BYE BYE!?

I heard from Seth Reed that the graalians mc server is running out of the subscription! So I guess this means that the server is done? :(

I believe they might open up donations, so I guess it's up to the players one whether it sticks around.

As a minecraft server owner, fp4 is definitely overpaying if he has to pay $90 every quarterly billing. You can find some very cheap Minecraft specific hosts that host 1.5 gigs of ram in the $25~ range.

Here's a few that be worth checking out:
http://www.beastnode.com
http://daddycheese.com

Both of them have very good ratings on bestminecrafthosts as well:

Pretty sure we use Beastnode, though as far as I know it was the zombie plan because when the server first came out it had a fair amount of players. The plan can probably be lowered though, but my main concern is hard disk space. Even with the zombie plan($30/mo) it was only 5GB of space provided. This is very little when you have a lot of players exploring the world. The world itself was 2gb, meaning we couldn't have any automated backup services and sometimes we had to manually clean stuff out to keep the file sizes down.

Still reminded the server lagged balls even if there was no players on and all processes limited. Sounds like the server host went well over their server and network throughput's means.

Edit: And I kept saying to use the mod that caps off the server's exploration area o_o

Ever consider adding a world border? Having one could really help reduce the amount of memory the world has. As for not having enough funds, have you tried lowering the server package fee? Because IMO, the current $30/month donation package is a bit expensive, especially when it almost costs as much as the game itself.

EDIT: Here's a list of my donation packages, if you're looking for ideas http://store.buycraft.net/garretty

Wonder who has the map. I'd like to keep building if it's at all possible lol. Hate to see all that go to waste.

iHawk 02-25-2012 07:14 AM

I'd like it too. Maybe post the map on mediafire and link here?

Chaotic 02-25-2012 04:05 PM

these are never a good idea, tho you could restrict the map size . the problem is that people wonder out cause its the only way to protect they're area from griefers and theives . by taking away that option you are just convincing them they should find another server . even with protections they are still at risk cause not everyone is given one . not to mention you need an op to set one when there's hardly ever one on, and no one is gonna trust someone that has a protection no matter what their rank is cause of the bad apples that place the seeds of mistrust . that's why i liked the region mod where players could place the protection themselves . but some are afraid people are just gonna run around placing their own protections on every ones stuff :\ .

iHawk 02-25-2012 05:40 PM

Who has the server map?

We were using the Zombie package from Beastnode, and the extra was to cover the amount in PayPal fees, and a very tiny margin went to myself. They've also changed their pricing since we originally signed up but the price difference is still only about $3.

My interest in Minecraft has completely dropped off though and there's no fun in maintaining it either.

iHawk 02-26-2012 07:07 AM

Fp4 can you give us the map?
