Agony's Graphic Design

Hello,
my name is Agony. Now, Agony is only my name on Graal - I use the alias "Recon"/"Rexon" outside of it, namely with my graphic design and written fanfics and other works of art. So, instead of spamming the Creative Corner with threads, I've compiled my graphic arts into one huge imgur album. These are my newer pieces of work; if you want to see my older ones, PM me and I'll add you on Facebook. Well... Enjoy.

Looks like a lot of photoshop things, and I don't know much about that type of graphical design. But it looks good to me :D Too many ponies, though.

I don't like it. Feels like it was just tossed together. I don't sense a flow. (did you save the blue one as 8bit or something?)

My favorite piece is your current avatar. The render has very good quality. I'm not a huge fan of how you toss in random light streams.

Rexx 04-30-2012 12:13 AM

whats with the ponys?
I'd like these better if you used different subject matter, or none at all.

Remorse 04-30-2012 01:35 AM

It's his choice.

I'm a huge fan of them, and I like the feel of using them in my graphics as there aren't much pony-centric graphics out there. Most graphics are centered around anime (which I love), or video game characters. I like to be different and independent. I'll occasionally use a different subject matter like anime characters or simple symbols/logos/designs. There's just something about them that I love to put in my graphics.

Thanks for the input. Like stated in my other threads, I acknowledge that I am not a good graphic designer yet, and have had no classes offered to me thus far. I'm glad when I get constructive criticism like this on my graphics; it helps me fix my mistakes like having "no flow". Also, for the light streams part, what else would you suggest for overlay layers?

And as for the blue one, I wanted a blue version, but didn't save an .xcf of the red image, and was stuck with a .png. When I tried to edit the hue/saturation, the quality for whatever reason was decreased.

Work them around the render. Create a flow of light that enters from one point, and exits at another. It's not that the light streams shouldn't be add, it's that you seem to just throw the light streams on-top of the render regardless of flow.

Here's some **** I did quite some time ago:
http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/9...domsiggy08.jpg
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/4...domsiggy10.jpg
http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/333/randomsiggy09.jpg
http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/6632/blank05.jpg
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/9...domsiggy01.jpg

Some of it is pretty bad due to excessive black-blank areas, but overall I keep the flow of light, and direction in most of them. The last one is probably the best example of flow since everything comes in from the left, and drifts towards the right.

Edit:
Better, but still old, examples:

This was really bad, unplanned, and kind of a clusterf***. The color scheme was HORRIBLE at the end, so I was done with it and added a gradient map.
