Avatar - help?

Can somebody explain to me why my avatar has all that white space even though it should be transparent, while people like Winter and Cigam and Ace and basicallyeverybodyelseonthisforum don't seem to have that problem?

Set transparency and save as a .png

I'd really prefer if somebody could tell me what I'm doing wrong as I've never had this problem before.

I always have a problem with transparencies. I set them perfectly but somehow they don't show up as transparent. This profile picture took me a few tries to get it to work. I'm not sure of the solution though, sorry.

Attached, if attaching it here loses quality I can send it to you.

I'm pretty sure the white background is set because the forum re-sizes the image to fit into the avatar space and doesn't take transparency into account. Try this.

That's fine. :)

Gimp always had problems with transparency

Pazx 06-06-2012 12:28 PM

I don't even bother with GIMP anymore, I used to use it for animations but with a lack of a tablet it's easier to use a clone of Flash. For pixel work and transparencies and most other things I use paint.net, for screenshots and stuff I use MS Paint.

Dylan is right. It changes to white when it's resized on the forums. You have to make a size that is the same or smaller size as the maximum width and height of the forum avatar size. If you click on your profile you will notice the background is white because it shrunk. Hope this helped!
