How much experience do i need for practice spars?

I recently got my VIP account (29 hours) and I really want to get real spar scores .___. how long do i have to be at Master Li's xP

Winter 06-08-2012 03:45 AM

You need "server experience", such as PKs, baddy kills, and hours. You have the hour requirement, but you probably lack some of the others. This system may have changed since the last time I remember, though. There may be other requirements I don't know about.

Also, the system is designed for new players to get experience first. If you have trouble rushing into competition spar, it must be doing its job! :)

Which is odd because I don't think that these requirements are ever disclosed to players. Probably frustrates a lot of players, like this guy, who are sparring all day at Master Li's to no avail.

I literally started playing iClassic because I wanted to spar and stopped playing immediately because there were requirements to spar. Now that I hear there's an hour requirement on top of the Master Li garbage, I'm definitely not logging back in.

Pazx 06-08-2012 06:42 AM

The practice spar idea was stupid to begin with.

Probably PK, I already have 100 + baddy kills, and 30 hours. I'm lacking PK.

Lol they should have a small quest for completing spar training and you have to face a series of NPC's in spar as well as Master Li himself.

You're probably in the same boat as me. You are not on a new account, so you don't have to deal with any requirements. You've already completed them before they were even added.

I agree, the requirements should at least be mentioned in the message telling you to practice spar. Possibly a notice during the tutorial for new players would be helpful. (Old players with new accounts will not get the tutorial because obviously they are not new. Makes sense, since the requirements are not geared toward experienced players.)

As stupid as it may be, it was necessary. Downsider, you were not a part of this server when the idea was first implemented. In response both you and Pazx's limited understanding of the actual reason the "practice spar" idea was added, there is a very good reason. In fact, it is probably the best solution anybody can come up with.

The actual reason these "practice spars" or "server experience" requirements exist is because of fake accounts. In the past, players on this server have a pretty large history of creating a second (fake) account. One way this is possible is by using a jailbroken device and an application called UDID Faker to change the device number on your Graal app, so the game thinks you are a new player. Unlike PC Graal, making more accounts is completely free. You could run around seeing people holding 7 or 8 guilds on different accounts, and the entire spar leaderboard was filled with players with profiles with similar numbers. They all seemed to have a very low number of hours online and a solid spar record of a few hundred wins to 5 or 6 losses. If the person didn't like their win/loss ratio, he or she would just start a new account.

Also, players would use a second account to lame their opponent in spars somewhere without worrying about the losses to the fake account. There would be dead accounts with 1 hour online and 100 losses, while someone would be walking around with an extra 100 wins and 0 losses leaving no witness except him or herself. There was also never any rules broken when creating a fake account, so GPs considered the fakers fair game. Quite unfair, action was taken.

So if you don't like the system here, blame these people. The system as blocked a large amount of these fake accounts, but the VIP (or rather "non-VIP account") system opened a new doorway for these people to make more accounts again... If you still think the system is unnecessary, by all means, come up with a better solution.

I like your idea about a questline to be completed before competing competitively. Although, this could still be completed fairly quickly to allow people to spar on fake accounts over and over again. Also, NPC sparring is pretty tough to script unless you add his character detection as a baddy's would be. But then wouldn't he just be as simple as any other baddy?

That was quite a long post about stuff I supposedly "had a limited understanding of". The way the system works is awful. They could have made it so that you needed 100 wins to get on the leaderboard, or they could have made inactive accounts fall off the board much sooner. The only other problem to address would be laming, and as far as I'm concerned the admins seem to pride themselves on being able to detect that.

PS. Just curious, could somebody explain the new nicknames in spar thingy?

I apologize for any offense you may have taken from my post, but I really was directing the "limited understanding" comment towards the player who was new to the server and probably didn't fully grasp the subject. 100 wins is still not a very good filter, since I remember seeing people with near 100-10 ratios, clearly not a new player. Also, I have come across far too many players upset about their numerous losses from when they first started. I don't see why giving them a cushion of practice before marking down loss after loss is such a bad thing. From your point of view, I understand your reasoning. However, the situation does not actually affect you as an experienced player. A new player would probably be perfectly content with this cushion.

The way I see it, anyway.

You can't drag the screen in spar rooms like you can any other place. When you hide nicknames, you have to drag the screen a bit to see nicknames, and when you let go they are hidden again. This update allows people hiding nicknames to tap/drag the screen to see nicknames inside the spar rooms, since it was automatically disabled before.

Why not just have the ability to reset wins and losses (for a small fee of course) along with my other suggestions. You could also make the spar on balamb practice, so your ratio and score are never affected, and would benefit the new players.

It could also require a number of losses, say 100 wins and 100 losses to affect your spar rating.

Winter 06-10-2012 03:29 PM

Nobody brought up the idea to reset wins and losses, but I suppose it would be possible. Not sure exactly how much it will be abused, though. I don't like the number of win/loss requirement, though. Resetting win/loss ratio is a very good suggestion, though.

Kirito Kirigaya 12-06-2012 12:15 AM

yeah i try to make one and have to be afk for a very long time

Devlin 12-06-2012 12:49 AM

Resetting spar score would completely throw off my idea of bringing the 6k spar helm back. People would boost and then reset their scores to hide the losses.

Don't see at all how that affects your idea. if they reset their spar it goes back to a 0-0 and they are farther from 6k. Let people who want to reach 6k reach it.

Wolfy 12-06-2012 02:42 AM

hi kana how are you

Yami 12-06-2012 06:54 AM

...

This system was added in the first place because of all the noob accounts sparring, so they look cool (like they know what there doing in a spar)

first it was 5hours, then 24. Now 48? Strange. But i don't feel anyone should be complaining about it, if you want to spar. Use your main account. I don't understand the logic of sparring on another account when other players can see right threw you.

In my opinion, noob accounts are pointless.

(i bet someone is going to search my name and find i do have another account, my old 09 account. But its old and has nothing to hide, so go ahead, only reason i still have it, is due to staff not transferring it.)

Sorry for the bump, but can anyone tell me the exact requirements to get into the main spar? A friend from UN who was trying the iclassic for the first time asked me the other day and I had no idea.

Crono 04-17-2013 04:21 PM

i really wish an npc just straight up told you that you need x hours rather than mislead newbies and others new to iclassic.

ph8 last i checked it was 24 hours of online time.

iDylan 04-17-2013 10:01 PM

ya it's 24 hours.
