There are requirements to spar?
|
You're probably in the same boat as me. You are not on a new account, so you don't have to deal with any requirements. You've already completed them before they were even added.

Which is odd because I don't think that these requirements are ever disclosed to players. Probably frustrates a lot of players, like this guy, who are sparring all day at Master Li's to no avail.

I agree, the requirements should at least be mentioned in the message telling you to practice spar. Possibly a notice during the tutorial for new players would be helpful. (Old players with new accounts will not get the tutorial because obviously they are not new. Makes sense, since the requirements are not geared toward experienced players.)

I literally started playing iClassic because I wanted to spar and stopped playing immediately because there were requirements to spar. Now that I hear there's an hour requirement on top of the Master Li garbage, I'm definitely not logging back in.

The practice spar idea was stupid to begin with.
|
As stupid as it may be, it was necessary. Downsider, you were not a part of this server when the idea was first implemented. In response both you and Pazx's limited understanding of the actual reason the "practice spar" idea was added, there is a very good reason. In fact, it is probably the best solution anybody can come up with.
The actual reason these "practice spars" or "server experience" requirements exist is because of fake accounts. In the past, players on this server have a pretty large history of creating a second (fake) account. One way this is possible is by using a jailbroken device and an application called UDID Faker to change the device number on your Graal app, so the game thinks you are a new player. Unlike PC Graal, making more accounts is completely free. You could run around seeing people holding 7 or 8 guilds on different accounts, and the entire spar leaderboard was filled with players with profiles with similar numbers. They all seemed to have a very low number of hours online and a solid spar record of a few hundred wins to 5 or 6 losses. If the person didn't like their win/loss ratio, he or she would just start a new account.
Also, players would use a second account to lame their opponent in spars somewhere without worrying about the losses to the fake account. There would be dead accounts with 1 hour online and 100 losses, while someone would be walking around with an extra 100 wins and 0 losses leaving no witness except him or herself. There was also never any rules broken when creating a fake account, so GPs considered the fakers fair game. Quite unfair, action was taken.
So if you don't like the system here, blame these people. The system as blocked a large amount of these fake accounts, but the VIP (or rather "non-VIP account") system opened a new doorway for these people to make more accounts again... If you still think the system is unnecessary, by all means, come up with a better solution.

Lol they should have a small quest for completing spar training and you have to face a series of NPC's in spar as well as Master Li himself.

I like your idea about a questline to be completed before competing competitively. Although, this could still be completed fairly quickly to allow people to spar on fake accounts over and over again. Also, NPC sparring is
pretty tough to script unless you add his character detection as a baddy's would be. But then wouldn't he just be as simple as any other baddy?
