Anyone here play DayZ? Its pretty darn amazing. For the uninitiated its an open world mod for ArmAII that pits you in the middle of no where, scavenging for resources to defend yourself from the imminent zombie apocalypse and survive. If you get cut, you will not heal. You need to go to a shack or something and personally find bandages to stop the bleeding. Its probably the most realistic zombie game in existence, and its just fantastic. Although sometimes it can be a pain to install depending on your system. Its also a resource consumer for some, I average 25-40fps on max settings depending on if im in a forest or in the middle of a complex town highly populated with zombies. Heres some screens:

My friend has been watching YT videos of this, non-stop, for the past 2 weeks. He's completely addicted - I'll have to redirect him to this thread lol.

And I will agree, it does looks pretty promising. I've been looking for a game like this for a while.

I really want to but it'll cost too much for the game and the mod :/

I would buy this but my laptop cant handle the graphics and even though my desktop probably could it be slow as crap with all the junk I have on there >.<

how many items you have on your hd really shouldn't slow down the game.

the gpu/cpu is really what will contribute to how well it runs(assuming you have enough RAM

You need Arma II: Combined operations. Its a pack that has an expansion that totals to 30 dollars.

Yeah its pretty darn demanding. Although I laughed in the comments of the yogscast video with people saying that it is slightly better than oblivion's graphics. If you crank up the settings and play it yourself you will realize its far, far surpassing of that, and probably on battlefield 3's level or more considering how freakishly large the maps are (although the character models aren't that amazing compared to the environment in DayZ. )

Now that I think about it, there really isnt any realistic zombie games out there.

Yes but you cant just run around in some random forest doing whatever the **** you want in it lol. This place is more fun to explore than skyrim.

Skyrim wasn't too fun to explore in the first place. Out of all of Bethesda's games, I think Fallout 3 had the best overworld. I agree though, DayZ looks like the most explorable world by far.

;( i found this mod 5 weeks ago but have a mac... So i converted it to a pc, bought the 2 games, started it up, arma 2 combined ops said my cd code was invalid when i bought off steam meaning someones used a code generator to illegally get the game by using the cd code, so i couldnt play that or get the mod, and arma 2 had a misted blue screen when i tried to play it, and lagged so badly it took 1minute for the mouse to move an inch on the title screen... Shattered my dreams forevaaaa

Battle field 3 has good gfx but this game dayz has nice graphics and all but alot of trees and bushes are 2-D and they look good from a distance but up close they fail

I'd like to see an image of this, because so far I haven't seen any 2-D trees.

also, DayZ is not really ultra realistic, but it would be hard to be ultrarealistic anyway, the controls suck, the game itself is complicated to even install and get working, and until a actual game itself for it is made instead of a alpha mod it should not be getting the attention it is getting as it isnt even technically its own game.

Controls suck? Its easy to use. And its graphics are fantastic. As for installing all you need to do is install the six lanucher and click "Install" its super easy. How can you even say any of these things if you own a Mac?

I'm curious, what do you do on the game? It looks fun, I had an itch to play it with a few friends/guild members earlier, but I watched a 20 minute video and all it seemed to be was non-stop walking around and running from zombies. I understand if that is the main concept, but is there more to it? Also, what happens when you die?

Basically, you start off with nothing on the coast of a mysterious area. You need food/water/weapons to survive, so the whole goal of the game is to obtain these materials by any means possible. These materials are mainly in urban areas (Where the zombies are) so you have to strategize, sneak around the village, and think ahead to get weapons and supplies to defend yourself, hunt animals for food, and eventually make a base for yourself. If you get hurt, you don't auto heal so you need a bandage to stop the bleeding (They are rare) Thats the catch. But zombies aren't the greatest threat- people trying to survive and take your gear are. When you die, its perma death and you loose everything usually unless you can somehow find your stuff in the 8 mile wide free roam world.

Tl;Dr: Its a very strategic and unique zombie game in an open world format based on survival of the fittest.

I just got this today. Can't get my hands on a damn gun, and I've bled to death once, and shot to death twice. Not a big fan of it so far.

The more items you have on your HDD, the slower a game will run. It has to go through directories full of junk to get what it needs, thus, it slows down the performance of the PC.

LOL wouldn't graal be awesome with a DayZ mod?!? Just imagine it. Graal as DayZ.. Not the graphics but I mean the gameplay. Guns Health Inventory etc. XD that would be awesome.

Deadlier. Players have guns and better path finding and aim.

Surviving the environment is sometimes just as hard, you can break bones and then you are toast if you can't drag yourself to a hospital without dying, you can freeze to death, die of thirst, starve, go insane...
And the crap storage and picking up items and controls systems make it even harder. Not to mention the fact that zombies can climb ladders and glitch through walls and doors, and sometimes you can literally kill yourself by closing a door on yourself accidentally.

Unofficial btw, I just thought it was pretty cool.
