Situation in the middle east

I'm surprised this has not been discussed on here yet, considering how collosal it is getting. In my opinion, the whole situation in the middle east (Spanning over 20 countries) is just completely crazy. Killing innocent people in multiple US embassies over an online video denigrating Muhammad that anyone could have put together? Killing? All these riots? Really? I cannot fathom the extreme irrationality behind it, I mean, anything but a random internet video to cause all of this.... I have a feeling its more about how these radical protesters view the entire population of the United States as infidels that deserve to burn down to the last one. What a just way for these protesters to embarrass all of humanity..... my thoughts go out to all the people that were killed. What are your views on this?

Are you? Look at the user-base and really consider if you're that surprised.

I havent actually heard too much on this. I think I'll do a bit a research.

Psycher! 09-14-2012 11:05 PM

I think it's stupid. If everyone in the world went around killing innocent people and destroying things over something that stupid, we'd all die the second a new meme comes out. People do stupid things all the time, yet it doesn't warrant killing completely unrelated people over it. It makes them look bad as a country/countries, as a religion, as most of all as people.

Regardless of when Obama apologized for the video (because that is a controversial story, actually), he shouldn't have ever apologized for it. Having that video up, as horrible as it is, is a part of our freedom of speech and apologizing after they started protesting (before they started killing, or after it doesn't matter) just makes the United States as a whole look weak and not strongly invested in its values even if were trying to avoid conflict. He should have just said he didn't agree with it, but he will not take it down. This situation sort of reminds me of the Jimmy Carter-Ronald Regan situation, sure its completely different, but it shares a lot of psychological similarities.

He apologized for it? I don't see how that would be necessary, since it wasn't a product of the government or any government-sponsored entities.

i think it was trying to be a sign of respect, i mean he had to say something, and last thing you want with a unstable area like the middle east is to rile them up by going and defending it.

He should have just said he (and the united states) didn't agree with the video or the protesters reactions. Nothing else.

Also, what are the odds this happens ON 911. This video has been out FOR MONTHS. This is probably a planned attack by some sort of group, it can't be a coincidence.

MementoJoker 09-14-2012 11:52 PM

That awkward moment, when the demonstrations are happening 5 minutes away from you..
The people rioting violently are only proving the guy's point and many Muslims I know agree on this.

Psycher! 09-14-2012 11:59 PM

It's all idiotic. People shouldn't be rioting violently over a poorly made movie. It's a waste of time, people, money, and perfectly good fences. Why people get that offended over something so insignificant is beyond me. If a movie offends them so much, let's hope they never visit one of the pages on Facebook with controversial humor or 4Chan.

Just so u can understand if you listened to his response, he basiclly said what you metioned above. He also says very clearly that at the moment, "we do not consider Lybia as an ally, nor do we consider them an enemy." He also has to tend to this issue very closely and carefully because this is an very sensitive issue. If you dont realize like higbey said, the last thing America needs is a stupid igrorant person making a movie in which if the goverment doesnt act properly will undo all the work done in the middle east since bush sent troops overseas.

Not only that they have just sent two warships, drones, and marines to help investigate whether or not it was linked to a terroist group or not. Its sad that the man who helped Lybia overthrow Gaddafi dies in that same country.

I agree that the violence is a huge overaction and its unfair that all of the united states is being critized rather than the maker of the film alone. But we cannot miss the fact that whenever there is a protest, there will be violence. Due to the fact that there will be a small amount of trouble makers who will use any oppurtounity to spark a riot and violence. We have to note that there have been many peacful protest that have been staged as well against not only the film but the violence as a result of it.

If they take down the video ect. ect., then that would show them that violence IS a solution.

they cant take the video down, if its not on a site under their control...

Wow, whats even more stupid is that the person who made the video was born and raised in Egypt. So many governments in the middle east seem to be using this video as fuel to get people to hate the united states even more, when they have nothing to do with it. This whole situation is just ridiculous and stupid. Pakistan apparently took a national holiday to let their people keep on doing this protesting thing... 19 people were killed. Man, this situation is just getting out of control, I'm worried about the troops in Afghanistan, we really need to get them out now before it gets so bad there is no way out.
