Murder Mystery Theater
Ah yes, the old dust collector of the Rotted Woods. What shall come of it? The last performance it was used for was...lack for a better words, deplorable, in a sense of acting. Yet it was quite a creative and constructive idea to host performances that were well written, adqeutley acted and staged suburb.
The first problem with the theater, was its script. A murder mystery which the most susceptible person to be the murderer, to be the murderer. No plot twists, no suspense, and hardly any drama. It was obvious who the killer was at the start since she was the only person there with the victim. What if more people had went into the bathroom? Or perhaps she came out fine and then her drink was poisoned and she ended up dying from that? If that were the case, more suspects would be available.
I'm not going to bash on anyone specific on actors here. But judging by how they portrayed their characters after discovering their friend has died, it looks like they went off script a few times. As for uncessesary swearing, didn't suit the play that much and gave the theater staff, along with theirselves, a bad name. Adding short asides to the audience regarding the play could still be done. As long as it's more appropriate and less frequent.
Stage props along with the stage itself wasn't too much of a big deal. Infact for the most part it was most impressive. But it didn't feel like the stage was coming out at the audience at most times. I'm watching people move on a screen. Big deal? Or how about: Woah! It felt like I went out of my body and watched myself move! Perhaps a better viewing screen could be implemented? I liked the whole scenery change feature and how it allowed to view the stage as a spar. What would be best however, is if instead of a viewable/scrollable stage. A screen would be placed there. Characters and events could be viewed as a spar in the same way. But there would be multiple viewing positions/camera angles. That way it could crop important characters/areas in a better view. For example: angle A, you have an overview of them walking down the path by a house with all the trees, signs, etc in the background. Angle B is just the area where they're standing to talk so you can focus in them. Angle C is them talk but it also includes the house. Implying that they may enter the house or they are discussing it. Angle D could just be the house itself. Text could be below it just to see what theyre saying about the house, or it could just be used as a transitioning cutscene. So almost like a zoom/crop feature. In order to get the full effect of the story.
TL;DR The theatre has potential. Just needs some ups in the way it's written, its actors, and its stage/props.
Halloween is on its way. I'm hoping to see the theatre reused this year. Maybe this time they can have a better showcasing than last year? What do you guys think?
