Best Anti Virus Program?

Yeah, so I've been trying to get this pop-up that occurs on occasions by trying different virus removal software. While doing so, this one Anti-Virus software called "HitmanPro" found a load of harmful items on my computer, one being a Trojan. I was like "Oh... ****...". The other virus programs I used (Anti Malaware Bytes, Norton) didn't find these. What is the absolute best anti-virus software you guys know of? I want to know if there's any other crap on my computer I don't know about.

I've heard a lot of bad things about it lol. My dad pays for a yearly $80 subscription, but I'm starting to think it's useless if it can't find any of this stuff on my computer.

I got you bro
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

It's free and the best in 2012
I am currently using it and its runs smooth and doesn't make my computer slower when I had norton or any paid antivirus

Thanks, I'll give this a shot and see what if it can pick up anything the other anti-virus softwares missed.

common sense.

This only works if only you use your computer, sadly. Still great advice as always, but sadly not always applicable. And Norton is indeed useless, and in fact many people consider it an infection in itself. Avast! is what I recommend and install on everyone computers I work on, but you may need more than just a single scanner if you know you have infections, because different scanners have different levels of success with various infections, regardless of how good it may be.

Windows Defender.

Just kidding, Kaspersky is the best I've had. Bestbuy sold it to me, a one year subscription of Kaspersky Internet Security. The best I'd recommend for you is Kaspersky anti-virus, but I'd compare the plans, depending on what you want.

So true. Back when my entire family used a single desktop there would always be something wrong with it.
I've never had problems with my personal laptop that only I use.

OT: I've used Avast+Malware Bytes for the last year and I've had no issues.
I would also try out Advanced System Care for a little computer house-keeping. It's pretty good it just has a few pesky ads, search for it on CNET.

Norton sucks and will make your PC ultra slow.

Microsoft Security Essentials is what I use. It does the job.

This (though in Windows 8, it's just part of Windows Defender now).

It works a treat, very low CPU usage. No ****y/unneeded features to bloat it up. I also use windows firewall.

I keep my computer safe mainly through networking (NAT + Reflexive ACLs at layer 3). I don't feel like dishing out for a paid antivirus when Microsoft does a a good job.

i have symantec endpoint protection.

Tricxta 11-01-2012 08:04 AM

I'd recommend microsoft security essentials. It's pretty good at picking up stuff immediately.
