Graphics Critique Center

Sometimes I feel people have WIP Graphics and don't want to create a thread just to post not finished products. I recently got granted a bit more free time, so I decided to offer a bit of a service. In this thread you may post any graphic you feel is not complete and me along with other forum members will critique it for you and tell you what you can improve on. I will also be posting not finished products here as well for you all to critique me on, alas seeing as this will be a cluster of non finished products, there will be rules put in place to ensure that everyone feels comfortable in doing so.

Rules:
- When posting a graphic please include what it is supposed to be, what you are not satisfied with, what program you are using to make these graphics and how much time/effort you put into it so far.

- When critiquing post ONLY constructive criticism. If you have nothing nice or constructive to say, then simply don't say it. This is a thread to help people progress, not to put them down. Everyone starts somewhere and I would rather someone post crap than steal and claim it is their work.

- It is inevitable in these types of thread that chat spam will happen. I urge you to keep it to a minimal and if someone posts some critique that you want more in depth info on, just PM them. Keep in mind this is for everyone, not just you.

Hopefully this goes well and we find more aspiring graphic artists within this group. Even if you have never done graphics before, I urge you to try it out. We are all here to help.

First, I really recommend finding a way to save as PNG or GIF. JPEG ruins your image a lot.

With your hat, I kept the outline and did 2 different shading styles on it. It really depends on what you like more, or which is visually appealing. I recommend defining your light source first, then working on your shades from there.

One thing I didn't do for you was a proper color selection, well this could work, but shades that are really different make a larger impact on a graphic. It is harder to do this when working with blacks and whites however.

Light source

using this apple you can easily see where the light is coming from because lighter colors are there such as white and pink, the further away from the light, the darker the colors become (ie Red Darkred).

I recommend for you to find a quality reference picture of a dinosaur. The reason the graphic looks odd is because the proportions are odd, the way it stands is also awkward. Get your line art down before moving on to shading.

Photobucket works well imo. Just upload, copy the code, paste.

I haven't done pixel art in a few months so this is pretty bad, it is suposed to be a clown mask with smudged makeup, made it on paintbrush, don't tell me to use less colors.http://i.imgur.com/czKPo3o.png

This is a car I made in paint. This is my first time making a car so many shading and details are wrong. I am also not sure about the sizes of it (maybe its too big) so if anybody has a car template I would like to use it to fix the sizes of my car. Thnx.

This is a chibi painting. I made it with Graphics Gale and spent about an hour on it. I still have a lot to do with it. Well I really want to add depth to my moon (the craters). I also want to make some nicer looking stars.

I know you don't wanna hear it, but I used less colors haha

If you are making things for graal, a black outline is always best. Gives it a pop
Also what I did was define a light source, I also made the eyes a focus point of the graphic by mixing light and dark shades together on the point of focus. Also with the lips, no one has a straight line of lips with one color, I included an upper and bottom, I also altered the shading in that reason to give a smear look.

my graphics xD

I like your bear, it resembles Delteria well, the only change that would have to be made is the color selection. Delteria uses bright vivid colors whereas yours seem a bit washed out/low saturation.

For the flower, I would work first on the line art then coloring, same advice I gave kiko. If the line art doesn't look like a flower, your shading wont change much.

For the torch, fire is untamed, meaning you have it in simple patterns whereas fire in actuallity tears apart and spreads in multiple directions. For reference to what I mean, look at my profile picture.

Overall they are pretty good, keep practicing :)

I'm gonna send the final version of the bear into deltaria as my application :) but, I used delt's color pallet for the brown color of the bear.. D:

Thanks for the advice! :)
