Will you buy the next Xbox if...

...if it requires a constant connection to the internet while powered on?
Rumor has it that the next Xbox might have this requirement.
Also rumored that there are two different versions of the next Xbox, one being more centered around entertainment than gaming.

Speaking to Kotaku, an unspecified source stated, "If the connection is interrupted then after a period of time -- currently three minutes, if I remember correctly -- the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started."
I will not buy the next Xbox if this is true. My wifi tends to go out occasionally, in addition to having low bandwidth and this would become stupidly annoying. Sony seems to be more focused on gaming with the PS4. Microsoft has been shoving all this tv streaming and music crap down our throats the last 2-3 years on Xbox and its getting old because all I want to do is play games. And Halo and Gears are getting tired, Microsoft barely has any exclusives left besides getting DLC sooner, which I barely buy DLC to begin with.

It is still early though and I usually wait a year after next gen consoles are released so my decision is still up in the air..

If buying the next Xbox has never crossed your mind then obviously this question doesn't pertain to you :)

I feel sorry for anyone who brought the 360 the amount of crap microsoft put on the xbox and forgot one major thing. The games

MattKan 04-08-2013 10:27 PM

I agree with you :). I have problems with my internet from time to time and would hate to lose progress because of it. Additionally, I sometimes leave my games idle and running for an hour or so in order to keep my progress and this would leave me unable to do so.

For somebody who was kinda thinking a little bit about getting the new Xbox this (assuming its true) puts me far into the "no"-zone.

People will continue to complain about all the stuff EA/Microsoft is doing, but the truth is the vast majority of people will still buy their products.

I'm pretty sure they're doing this as an anti-piracy measure, but I can already see people creating a hack to bypass this internet restriction, along with pirating the games themselves.

It really depends honestly. Everything around the next gen xbox is rumors and speculation at this point until Microsoft comes out and announces it. Having always online won't affect me much, but will irritate me if say I want to go to a buds house and bring along my console but his internet is off etc. I will most likely wait half a year-year after release of both consoles and see how the reviews pan out.

It's also suppose to have mandatory game install for every game on a disc, which PS4 is doing as well. The always online thing seems overkill.

Sure you can hack and all that but why not just buy something that works out of the box?

Gamestop supports the next xbox apparently, so you would assume used games would work somehow. The whole topic is blurry to me until Microsoft comes out and confirms or shuts down rumors.

I don't believe in piracy; I'm just saying that I know it's going to happen, and that Microsoft can't stop it entirely. I do think it would be better if you could just run the game off of the disk, but Microsoft thinks they can prevent something they can't.

Gamestop will always support xbox because they have a great partnership with them like special promotions and stuff like that, but if the rumor of not allowing used games to play on the console then it will bring gamestop down since they are only opened because of used games.

It would take a very long time to hack it since it seems Microsoft wouldn't want their next gen console like the 360 which lost a lot of money from pirating games. I would rather get the PS4 if it seems to have more features than the Nextgen Xbox

I'll take it a step further and will not buy the next Xbox if they have anything close to the abomination of an online system that is Xbox Live. Having to PAY to play games online is absolutely obscene, especially when your competition has far better online services for free. People only pay for Xbox Live because their friends use it.

I laughed my ass off when I tried to watch Netflix on my Xbox and I got prompted that I needed to pay for Xbox Live Gold. How pathetic: A subscription service to access another subscription service?

@What pimpsy said,
Always like the ps over the xbox because that we have to PAY to play online...rofl

Dusty 04-09-2013 06:26 AM

No I won't. I have ****ty internet and when it's acting up I want to play games OFFLINE. Not deal with disconnection BS. In fact, for the last week I have had my 360 unplugged from my router so I don't have to deal with the disconnects and friend requests when I just want to play by myself.

Hopefully they're wise enough to not make such a fatal mistake. While PS3 had a pretty bad launch, and a slow slope to profit it wasn't BROKEN. It was just expensive. Once the price came down there was really no reason not to own one if you could afford it. But this... this decision could really hurt Microsoft. But I don't get that into rumors, we'll see what happens.

PS4's alleged "link games to console" DRM is pretty bad as well. Not as bad as always on, but definitely something I will consider. Looking like a rough next-gen guys :(

It's only $60.00 a year... The normal price of a game. It has good features the PS3 lacks. I have both consoles and I prefer the Xbox 360 over the PS3. It seems the PS3 makes a lot of money on their DLC if you ask me. Uncharted has over 300 and Playstation All Stars charges $4.99 for each new character and $1.99 for stages along with other various forms of DLC. Little Big Planet 2 doesn't allow you to use community objects that were made from DLC content which I believe had over 5 packs around $4.99 each. I'm aware the Xbox 360 has DLC, but I don't think it forces it on people as much as the PS3.
