The logic behind reps?
 

So what is the real logic behind adding reputation? What deserves a rep and what do you look in when finding someone to spread reputation? It seems as if whenever I actually post something productive and informative, I get nothing. Whenever I post something stupid, I get a rep lol. I just wanna know what deserves a rep and when doesn't since I think I'm just under 10 away from 2 bars. Not that I care about it, but just been wondering. Thanks :)

It's a nice feeling to get a rep. It's like saying, "Kudos to you" or, "Awesome, funny post". It's appreciation :)

Think of it as a Facebook like or a Reddit upvote. Shows the poster that you thought their post was good for whatever reason, be it funny, helpful, or embarassing another member in a hilarious/deserved way.

I agree with The Doctor. It makes me feel like I helped someone or gave them a good laugh for the day. The first rule about rep is to not expect it. Just post without expecting anything. If people like what you did or said they'll rep you. Don't post a guide and go "Where's my rep mother f***ers!?".

^^^^ Sometimes I still react the same way I did when I got my first rep lol.

I usually rep something if it's really funny and clever, but still on topic. Occasionally I'll rep if someone posts something really informative and helpful. But you don't get a free rep for answering my question. And occasionally I rep if I agree with something a lot, but this is rare.

Is reputation really that difficult of a concept to wrap your head around? This isn't the first thread like this that we have had.

You rep someone for whatever the hell you want. The reasoning is completely up to the repper, hence why you can type in why you're giving rep. Hell I've repped people before just to spread.

I get some reps once in a while, although I must, I have sometimes that desire to earn my 2nd block of rep.
