PEPE REINA has thrown his Liverpool future into doubt by admitting he would find it tough to turn down a bigger club.
The Spanish keeper is weighing up his future after eight years at Anfield.
And while he insists he is not looking to leave, his comments have alerted long-time admirers Arsenal and Barcelona.
Reina, 30, insisted: “My situation is clear. I have three more years of my Liverpool contract — but I never say never.
“I’m very happy and satisfied at Liverpool.
“But of course if I’m given the chance to improve and go to a bigger club, and now there are a few bigger than Liverpool, I’m sure the club would understand.”
Jamie Carragher’s retirement means only Steven Gerrard has served more years at Anfield than Reina.
But the former Barcelona youth graduate has grown concerned by the club’s recent failure to challenge for major honours.
And their continuing absence from the Champions League is also a worry.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a long-time admirer who is looking to replace the inconsistent Wojciech Szczesny while former club Barca are also in the market for a new keeper after Victor Valdes recently confirmed he will be leaving the Nou Camp when his contract expires next summer.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is already lining up Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet.
Reina, speaking from the Confederations Cup in Brazil, fears he will stay behind Valdes and Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas in Spain’s squad while absent from European football.
He added: “Coach Vicente Del Bosque makes his decisions and I don’t know if I’ll play.
“He saw fit to play Iker as usual because he has been 13 years in the team. It is the same with Victor Valdes. The quality he has brought to Barcelona is beyond doubt.”
