What makes a gang/player "pro"

I'm sure there are a lot of threads about this but I am to "lazy" to find them. I was arguing with an Aureus member on zone and they said

"You hate us because were pro."

My definition of pro for player/gang is being quite humble about winning a planet/base/tower. Sure some of us do get excited but rubbing it in, and smashing it in our face till we do get angry. It is just obnoxious.

What do you guys think?

I personally would think that being humble isn't a part of being 'pro'. It makes them a better person but maybe not a pro

Floyd Mayweather Jr was never humble and hes one of the best boxers of all time. Personality has nothing to do with your skills.

Its called being a jerk. Pros can be jerks and so can noobs and average players

Any noob that works hard enough can get 15 other noobs to help him take fort time an accumulate 10k hrs but that doesn’t make them pros. Of all the guilds in iClassic that originated from iClassic R3drum was the only pro guild (imo) because all the members were descent or pro sparers, made the tower thing look easy, they were the most known social guild (sad), they work too hard on their avatars look (sad), and most of them had over 30k kills. Most guilds are known basically for one thing but r3drum was known for all aspects of graal.
My opinion is based solely on iClassic since it’s the only server I play

You make very valid points, maybe I should have explained my version of a pro yes being humble is part of it! Only because I can't see someone "pro" at something cheering because they won. Also, they have to be good at what they do. Whether being a pro gfxer, you expect them to make the best graphics. Another thing about being pro is maybe be known in the community. I'm not saying like your talked about 24/7 just known here and there.

no one gets paid to play this game
this game is not even competitive
"pro" is a silly term

Saying this game isn't competitive is silly. You do not need to be paid to be competitive or "pro". This game is quite competitive actually, events, basing, sparring.

Yes, I am quite aware: http://www.graalians.com/forums/poll...lts&pollid=480

It's not competitive. It's an interactive chat room. I don't know what "basing" is, but I have to assume it's the equivalent of iClassic's towerd. Not competitive. Sparring, not competitive. There's just not a competitive atmosphere on this game as a whole.

Graal is an extremely casual and social game.

Maybe youre looking at it from the wrong perspective. When someone beats a noob in graal its meaningless but when they beat a pro they see it as great accomplishment. I think the guy that beat you guys saw you as a pro basing guild and was rubbing it in cause it gave him a feeling of accomplishment. Everything depends on how you look at things. Example I had this guy kill me in pk and he felt so good about it he put a pic of the msg you get when you kill someone in his guild pic. He started taunting me like if I was going to get butt hurt but I was just happy that him killing me meant so much to him.

I could name a couple people that are known by most of the community and are not even close to being pros.

Basing is basically towering. I think as a whole there is competitive atmosphere. If you see many people who spar in iGraal games, it can get competitive. Also the basing or towering gangs as well get competitive talk trash to one another and such.(No I'm not saying that's competitive but what leads to it) Gangs, squads, and guilds all compete for the different towers and bases.

Gonna give +rep cause I never thought of it like that :D!

IDK about Era or Zone, but iClassic:
Sparring: Dominated by about 3 people consistently for months; the "good" iDevice sparrers have been scared off by PCs and it's the same ~20 at the Battle Arena every single day
Towering: Every 2-3 months the same tower guild is rehashed with the same core of members (similar to what just happened with Xzenix and the new MYTHZ) and it's as if tower players are afraid to go against their friends in the spirit of competition (but let's all be serious, they only do it for the hat so it makes sense why they stack guilds)
Events: A guild exists that claims to have harbored the most skilled event players and they cooperate and team together in events to win and disadvantage others

Doesn't seem competitive to me. Maybe at the lower levels there is competition, like between the average tower guilds and average sparrers. I've never won a GST or been part of some 1000-hour tower guild not because I couldn't have easily done it, but because why would I join Mother? Why would I join a tower guild that I know is going to sit around and idle at a fort all day and easily achieve their goal in a month? Just seems stupid to me, but not everyone else is like that. The point is to try and prove you're better than others, without stooping to some desperate measure and cooperating with everyone else near your level. That's dumb.

So IMO, if someone is a "pro" then they should stop joining the competition and start going against them. Stop being so prideful. Stop being afraid to lose. Stop trying to do things that are easy to accomplish.
