Androids & iDevices

Being able to play on an android is the coolest thing thats happened in a while. My ipod is starting to break down now and i didn't want to play iclassic on a pc. Although, it is a start i would just like to mention some things.

The game play is very smooth rarely any lag and it's really fast for me. Yet lately i've been freezing and i've asked around to know if it's just me but most of the people i've asked are idevice. I don't know if other android users experience the same. The controls take time to adjust if you played on idevice before but once you get the hang of it, you'll feel great even though sometimes the controls are glitchy. The example being if you play on a charger and if you somehow disconnect the charger while (ex. sparring) your controls will mess up and it takes a good 15 seconds to re adjust. Sometimes player text is invisible and they keyboard doesn't work sometimes but i'm pretty sure the keyboard part is just the android phone itself.

- I recently asked a lot of android users on their thoughts about the gst and sparring itself. 9 out 10 of them said they don't think it's fair how androids have to spar in mixed. The other person saying they don't mind. Honestly, i don't think that's fair because pcs obviously have the advantage of a wider clearer screen, and better movement controls which not to argue is better for the ideal sparrer. Yet why place an android who has the same ability of an ipod in a tournament against pcs. Just because it's a different device doesn't make sense. Same thing with single spar. Let us spar in the idevice room! Sometimes we don't want to spar pcs all day & lately that's all i have been doing. Give me one reason why androids and idevice shouldn't be put together. It gets pretty annoying sometimes. I also don't want to have to spar pc's next gst because i'm an android. I move, type, and play like an idevice so let me spar like one. I could use my ipod but it disconnects every 5 minutes or less. So i don't play on it anymore. I can't be the only one who wishes for equality of androids and idevice. MAKE US EQUAL!

I agree that Android players should be lumped into the "mobile" classification for sparring, the GST, and other purposes, but I understand why it isn't. It's very easy to use external peripherals on an Android device and also very easy to emulate Android using a PC, and there's very likely no way for Graal to understand if either is happening.

Either way, I don't think Android users are going to be rushing to buy external keyboards just to have this perceived "advantage" in one side of the GST. I feel like they should just let it happen despite those issues, but oh well.

I play on Android myself because I feel that my iPad makes the controls harder since they are farther apart. I too, feel disappointed that i cannot spar in the iDevice and it should just be lumped into one mobile spar room. However Blood, I do not experience the problems you do except for the freezing; that happens every so often. It might just be the server lag.

o0? I thought Androids were in "Mobile GST," I thought that was why the changed it "Mobile" from "iDevice" in Spring. Yes, all Mobile devices should be in mobile/idevice/whatever gst

Why can't my gameboy enter I device spar room help.

Probably a good time to bump this after Google Play. I actually tried to play iClassic using multiple Android emulators for PC (BlueStacks, YouWave, etc.) and the app crashed on all of them. I have extreme doubts that this is going to be abused in any way, and at the very least I think Android players should be allowed on the iDevice side of the GST.

Mmmm, my slideout keyboard works flawlessly ;)

Thallen 09-03-2013 06:29 AM

90% sure a slideout keyboard would be even harder to spar effectively on than with touchscreen controls, I think staff should at least give it a try and see if it brings forward any complaints or problems.

It's better than a touch screen, though the dPad is of the ****ty floaty variety. Anyways it is most definitely very easy to get an external keyboard attached to an android device... but people with iPad's can do that if they jailbreak, no? Would be cool if Stefan could add a way to detect whether movement is being caused by screen or physical input. It is possible for him to do something about it, but scriptwise there's nothing that could be done because the touch controls invoke the client in a way that tricks it into thinking physical buttons are being pressed. If Stefan added a way to detect the origin then maybe it could just be added to kick people out of mobile when physical keys are used.

Also I can't be certain, but do Android users get the speed boost iOS players get? While walking around(with 20fps, I just happened to have a script loaded to tell me as I was benchmarking some stuff before the Android release), I noticed someone walked past me at a faster speed. It was hard to tell because they were skipping a bit, but I definitely thought they were able to overtake and pass me. Would be nice if someone with both devices could test it out.

Yes, you can even do it with an iPod if you're really that desperate for the advantage.

I don't believe that exists with any device, I spar 90% of the time I'm online and the only time I notice someone faster than me is when I'm against a PC player who is tinkering with their browser process speed using a third-party application (AKA speed hacking for an extremely unfair advantage because they suck).

Well it definitely used to be a thing to balance out the handicap of using touch controls. No bother though, will be easy to check via script when I get a chance.

iClassic's D-Pad has been crap since I started in 2011.
iZone's...it's better, but theyre all floaty.
Can't be changed much, eh?

The only difference between those two are graphic wise. They both work the same.

NeoZX 09-03-2013 12:40 PM

No...classic's has a space between the corners..like, I can feel it. It hinders my movement.
