Horror / Thriller Anime (+Bonus Rant)

<rant>
Spoiler
Ok guys, we were given a whole frikin subforum to ourselves for the sole purpose of anime (and manga..), yet no one takes advantage of it. Everyone only posts in the "must watch" thread, that has evolved into the "general anything and everything anime discussion" thread. When you tell people you are watching a good anime, if you notice, quite a few other people jump in saying theyve watched it in the past, or are persuaded to go start watching it themselves; so dont be afraid to create a new thread about one anime. or a genre you like. When I come here for suggestions, I dont wanna have to scroll through 8 pages of discussion when only 3 different anime are even mentioned because ive been off for a few days. Make better use of this subforum please and thank you. So this is an attempt to break away from the "main thread." If you really like other genres, feel free to start another genre thread.

Yours truly,
~ m i c h a e l

Anyway. Horror is one of my favorite genres. Heres a few good ones if you dont have a weak stomach for blood guts gore and are ok with favorite characters dying off [:

Blood+
Spoiler
One of my first and favorites. Not your traditional vampire anime, but technically the japanese word for the monsters in the show is vampire. Anyway, main character Saya thinks shes a normal teenage girl but doesnt know she is really missing memories as far back as WWII (ya she doesnt age). It turns out she is destined to be a vampire huntress, killing vampires by mixing her special blood with the vampires' blood, thus crystalizing the blood inside their veins :D. Anyway the goal is to kill her archnemesis: Diva. Theres a little romance too. Drama turns into melodrama, but its still a really good show.

Claymore
Spoiler
Monsters called Youma roam the world. "Claymores" are half-Youma half-human women warriors who hunt and kill youma will claymore swords. The Claymore is an organization of 47 (i think) women, ranked by numbers. Number 1 is highest rank, and Number 47, Clare (main character), is lowest. However, if a Claymore loses control of themselves, they may completely lose their human half and turn into a creature far worse than a youma. Clare wants revenge on the one that killed Teresa, her mentor and former Number 1. Oddly, the anime doesnt focus much on youma, but most of the time claymores are killing each other to rank up..

Hellsing Ultimate
Spoiler
Vampire secret organization vs extremely devout Catholics vs ... Nazis. Lots of blood, lots of guns and explosions. Integra Hellsing is leader of an almost extinct family organization. She and her trump card, the notorious Alucard (vampire), wage war with Britain (and later Nazis pop in). Highlights: Seras with cannons mounted on her shoulders; Alucard releasing the spirits of 2million of his previous victims, flooding London in a tsunami of BLOOD :^D

I have tons more that ill add later ;)

I've watched both Hellsing and Claymore, enjoyed both very much.

I think the reason we're just using that one thread is that there isn't that many users here who have an interest in anime.

It has 74 episodes, but Monster was the fourth anime show that I watched (craving a more Death Note-like mystery) and I still strongly believe that it is the best 'thriller' anime there is. Highly recommended to fans of the uncomfortable and psychological horror.

Synopsis:
Quote:

Dr. Kenzo Tenma is a renowned young brain surgeon of Japanese descent working in Europe. Highly lauded by his peers as one of the great young minds that will revolutionize the field, he is blessed with a beautiful fiancé and is on the cusp of a high promotion in the hospital he works at. However, all of that is about to change with one critical decision that Dr. Tenma faces one night—whether to save the life of a young child or that of the town's mayor. Despite being pressured by his superiors to perform surgery on the mayor, his morals force him to perform the surgery on the young child, saving his life and forfeiting the mayor's. All of a sudden, Dr. Tenma's world is turned upside down by his decision leading to the loss of everything he previously had. A doctor is taught to believe that all life is equal; however, when a series of murders occur in the vicinity of Dr. Tenma, all of the evidence pointing to the young child who he saved, Tenma's beliefs are shaken.

Naoki Urasawa's Monster is a tale full of mystery, suspense and intrigue as Dr. Tenma journeys to find out the true identity of the young child. In turn, the fate of the world may depend on it.

YES. No matter how deeply disturbing Monster is, it will remain as one of my all-time favorites.

Nothing as of yet considering how busy the director is. Plus Game of thrones was annoucend in 2009/2010 and only premired in 2012

Finally have a little time to write up a few more.

Shiki
Spoiler
I forget all the names here, but this is definitely a top 10. Dont get attached to the first pink haired girl you see thinking shes the main character; she disappears and is found dead days later in a forest outside of her small town. After this incident, the town doctor sees several patients who are suffering symptoms that would suggest they are missing a lot of blood, but there are no external wounds besides what appears to be a bug bite. But each patient disappears every night and each dies three days after the initial symptoms. The doctor thinks hes dealing with an unstoppable and unexplainable epidemic, but as he discovers, the town's foe is something much worse: vampires.

Paranoia Agent
Spoiler
I include this in Horror because of the severe psychological factor. A female animation artist is attacked in an alley one night. She says that her assailant was the notorious "Shounen Bat," a boy on rollerblades wielding a bent golden bat used to club his victims over the head. But the police dont believe the story because Shounen Bat is believed to fictitious. However, after this, more and more victims of major head wounds start claiming that Shounen Bat was their assailant. The end of this anime is sick and gut twisting when you realize what has really been going on; then deeply disturbing when you figure out what caused it all

Another
Spoiler
A new student is admitted to Class 3. This additional means an imbalance in a class ritual attempting to prevent a certain catastrophe: a curse that causes students of Class 3 to die one-by-one every month of the school year. Before the new student, the class was able to prevent the curse by pretending that one of the students (Misaki Mei) just does not exist. However, this is no longer working. The curse has begun and the other students are trying desperately to stop it.

Another is the one of the animes that I want to see, its just so creepy. I've been reading this manga called Doubt.

Quote:

Doubt (-ダウト- Dauto?), also known as Rabbit Doubt (ラビット·ダウト Rabitto Dauto?), is a shōnen horror manga written and illustrated by Yoshiki Tonogai. The series focuses on the "Rabbit Doubt" cell phone game, with rules similar to Mafia. The players must find the wolf, or killer, amongst their group of rabbits as they are picked off one-by-one. Six players of this game find themselves trapped in a building with one of the group already dead; to avoid the same fate, the remaining five must play a real-life game of "Rabbit Doubt" and find the wolf (liar)hiding among them.
