Ukraine and Europe crisis

This power play is hurting both Europe and Russia. Would be interesting to hear how Ukrainian citizens feel about the possibility of splitting the country as it happened before in Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. Apparently some very different ethnics in the same country have a hard time getting along with each other as seen also with Catalonia, Scotland, French-speaking Belgium

Ukraine will not split, Russia will not leave until they achieve the goal of taking over part of the Ukraine, therefore Sanctions will be placed against Russia until Putin stops supporting pro-russian movement in the Ukraine, this has been going on for months.

Love how everyone puts sanctions on Russia for their occupation but Israel gets off scot free.

Anyways I'm not sure what to believe in this situation. I don't know the real details of it and I don't believe any of the news I've heard here in the USA. It's just anti-Russia propaganda so I can't expect any real reports on the situation.

East Europe is basically a ****hole.

Russia is just an expansionist nation and wants to increase its area of influence. The West has proven that it will react to any more acts of aggression to NATO nations including Poland but so far has not shown how willing it will be to protect the Ukraine. They can only inflict so many economic blows and sanctions before they suffer from a lack of gas that Russia will retaliate with.

Sanctions will hardky affect Russia now after they got all cosy with China

lord greg 08-01-2014 06:57 PM

China can only help them so much. The sanctions are focussing on freezing the bank accounts and assets of wealthy Russian oligarchs who are close to Putin. This could work because without the rich backing, Putin will face a large political problem when running for re-election.

Basically months ago Putin sent Russian troops into Ukraine, took over some military and naval bases and ever since pro-russian movements have been going on, the new Sanctions were placed due to the fact MH-17 was shot down killing hundreds of civilians by Russian troops inside of Ukraine.

This is Yugo vs Croatia all over, just different countries.

They won't go to war over Ukraine. The EU needs to man the **** up and throw sanctions at Russia.

Yes, let us just do the same thing over again like we did in Vietnam. The US government is stupid but not stupid enough to go to war.

War is a last resort, never should be your first option.
