Well if you want to collect money in an active way, it´s shells. But you should add also trash, since it´s always suprising how much money you collect while walking around and spending a half second to pick them up.

I say mining because The higher your level the faster u get rocks

I would say shells cause I bought 10 shovels once I had some where around umm 2k or more can't remember but after I was done I ended up with 14k profit took like 30/40 min or so.
