Opinion On Online Dating Services(OkCupid, Tinder, Etc)?
 

I'm legitimately considering trying OKCupid, but I'm not sure if I should. I'm 18 and I still haven't dated a girl.

In some ways, I consider it taking advantage of technology, and a great way to meet someone like you. You can only find so many people your age. I'm not the kind of person that likes to go to clubs, so my only real way of meeting people is at college. I'm taking primarily computer classes, so finding a girl isn't easy when 90% of the class is men. I also don't know if just talking to a random girl I like would be seen as creeperish-and it would also be really akward if she's already with someone.

With a site like Okcupid, I can find both someone I like, and one that has similar interests to me. It simplifies finding someone I would like to be with, and trivializes the concept of getting the message across that you're looking to date(they made a profile for a reason), so it seems like quite a nice way of making things easy for an introvert like me.

But in some ways, I'm also worried about it. I don't know if who I meet might be crazy or something, or I feel safe. I'm also worried about the social taboo of online match sites. When my parents and friends ask "where I met my girlfriend", I'm not sure if my response of online would cause looks of disapproval or uncertainty. Being a relatively new thing, it's not really something older people can get behind because it seems "unnatural". It's one of the biggest things stopping me. Still deciding if I want to make the jump.

So, Graalians, what's your opinion on it? Has anyone tried it?

Never tried it, wouldn't think it's weird/unnatural though, then again I'm 18 as well and understand the power of the internet lol.

I'd say go for it if you wish, but if you're truly worried about catfishing/it being unsafe then try expanding your social circle (if youre in college join clubs etc.) Sadly the majority of girls aren't gonna fall into our laps so we have to make some effort too!

Online dating is awesome. 8/10 would recommend trying atleast once.

Hey, if you feel like it's a good route then go for it. I'm pretty much in the same predicament as you (except I'm 2 years older). I just haven't found a girl in my area with similar interests and college is pretty much my only social playground.

Probrably should walk around and Talk to people and be friends with them then ask them if there single then if they said no leave them and never talk to them again.

Well, at least maybe I can make a good friend. Not a complete loss. Probably gonna just give up on online dating though, I just can't find anyone I like despite the thousands of girls near me. Guess if I don't find anyone IRL that I like I'll stick with a 2d Waifu lol.
