Autism as an insult.

Hello. It's come to my attention that some people have began using the word "autistic" as something that's bad. This has been bothering me a lot. Autism is not something to joke about. It's incredibly rude to say such things, because millions of people struggle with this condition all around the world. Treating it as something bad is really rude and I am asking that those who have been using it as an insult, to please stop. "This thread is extremely autstic" is extremely annoying to say. Please, just stop it.

Why did I make this thread? To enlighten everyone who thinks using autism as an insult is ok. It's not. Do your research. It's very rude to say something like that, and I am asking for you all to stop. Thank you.

Same thing goes for words like "******ed" imo.

People will always use words of the minorities such as the n-word, homosexual, it guess that's the way the internet works these days, but I understand your point

Guess what the point of an insult is?

LOL, I see what you did there

"I'm offended by your phrase which was meant to offend me."

So it's ok to use autism as an insult?

When you insult someone, you would normally compare them to something that is bad/horrible. Autism is a horrible condition which affects millions of people. But someone who is autistic isn't horrible.

Obviously that isn't what he meant. He is saying it is unfair to trivialize groups by using them as an insult. Surely you're not this ignorant?

That's a shocking revelation. It's impolite and politically incorrect to call people gay, ******ed, autistic, refer to bad things as "cancer," etc.

The point is that this thread is about as useful as walking up to someone who has just stolen from a store or stabbed someone and saying, "That's wrong!"
The point is that these people don't give a **** about what you think, and you're acting like it's a matter of raising awareness.

Someone who frequently uses the word "autistic" as an insult looks at a thread like this and says, "Wow, so it really does work! I really am offending them! :)"
Sorry for bringing honesty and reality into your feelgood thread, but maybe you should stop being so sensitive on the internet? This thread will literally achieve nothing.

Yeah, and believe it or not, the fact that other things are just as bad as something does not somehow make it good.

The point is that these people don't give a **** about what you think, and it's hardly a matter of raising awareness.

I've used words like these before without realizing their full extent, and the only way I ever stopped was because others pointed it out. I get that you're cynical about it, but it's not like you're doing anything to help by ****ting on people who try to raise awareness. Quite the opposite.

Smitty 05-09-2015 02:30 AM

I wouldn't use it as an insult

that was an autistic comment :P

I do believe a good 70-80% of people who use derogatory terms such as some already listed on here hardly ever use it against those actually afflicted with the handicap.

If you went up to a person with autism and called he/she an autistic dunce or something, do you think they give a ****? It only goes to show how much of a total idiot that person is, and it doesn't benefit the person using those terms in any way.

So basically, those who use the terms should just be ignored and regarded as the true undesirables of society.

MrSimons 05-09-2015 03:35 AM

I'll make sure I use nicer insults next time, gotta make sure that the mean things I say make people feel good about themselves.
