The Constructive guide to becoming GP: By NYN

Please do not give me any credit. all of it goes to NYN himself. I only just organized it and posted it for all to see. If he wants to, he can delete this and post it himself. Sorry but i thought this could be useful

In my opinion, applications are a poor way of really showcasing who you are as a player and person. Anyone could just lie and come up with the answers we are usually looking for. You can say you're mature, but can you prove it?That being said I want to let everyone know what I will be looking for in a GP. First requirement is having a Graal Facebook which you already do. I feel this is important because I can notice in REAL TIME how you react to other players. Afterall, being a GP is all about Interaction. I will be checking comments and how you react to other players. So if you have a history of raging against other players, you can count yourself out...

-This is the only sure method of becoming a Graal Police. Why? Because I have used it for EVERY SINGLE PERSON I HAVE EVER HIRED. So if you wanna think it's unfair, then you're probably not good enough anyway. So go take a hike :-D

-PLEASE keep in mind that Graal Police is the same as Player Relations, we just don't use the name. You are also required to answer questions to the best of your ability so you better know the game like the back of your hand!

Maturity
Some people have a hard time figuring this one out... It doesn't mean you gotta be a prude and be totally against having fun. It just means you know how to handle yourself in any situation that may come to you. If someone is trying to attack you via facebook, what is the best way to handle it? Tell them to **** off? Ignore them? Laugh it off? Put yourself on a pedestal and act like you're better than them? Figure it out for yourself, but if you guys want a prime example of someone who knows how to handle themselves well on the internet, despite their age, take a look at Midori and Cat612

Contribution
Ok so maybe you may not be the greatest artist whether it be drawing or music, but if you can contribute SOMETHING to the server that's worth looking at whether it makes others laugh or helps them in the game, it truly shows you care and love the community. We want people who can be role models or leaders. Perhaps a guide? A youtube channel? A story? Funny screenshots? Show us what your Graal experience is all about! Tell us your story, whatever it may be!

Don't ever ask to be a staff member!
Seriously if you do, you're unqualified. It shows you are impatient and you just want the power. Everyone should know that EVERY SINGLE PLAYER I HAVE EVER HIRED has NEVER ONCE asked me to be a staffmember. They naturally let it happen to them and didn't care whether they were staff or not. It's very respectful towards us because it also tells us they know how much we get bugged by kids who wanna be a staff member.

Age
There is no minimum age to be a staff member, but your chances are much better if you're 16+ I always try to aim for 18+. This is only for GP. I believe there are players who are 12-16 who could qualify as a levels/gfx staffmember because there is more raw talent required there than their skill of judgement. Younger players have less supervisory experience so there might be a lot of learning happening when patrolling. We want people who have enough life experience to know how to deal with players younger and older than them. Let's just be honest, It would be pretty damn WEIRD imagining a 13 year old banning a 25 year old. It kind of makes the game look unprofessional.[/b]

Patience and don't try so hard!
I can't stand when I get messages of people trying to act mature and being super subtle letting me know they wanna be a staff member. They try to get around every single rule I might write in this blog to try to show me that they stand out. "Oh hi I'm 18 and I just want to let you know that I just made a cool video about Graal check it out! It insults my intelligence. DON'T CALL ME I'LL CALL YOU! I will NOTICE anything you contribute in my news feed and it will be highlighted if other people enjoy it. So focus on them not me. When you're a GP, it matters more if players like you anyway so start getting on their good side now. I will ignore anyone try to start a friendly conversation with me. I don't wanna get to know you like that. I'm sorry. It happens entirely too much and I can see right through you. Don't even bother.

If it doesn't happen, no worries..
There are hundreds of players who want to be staff. We obviously can't hire everyone. No hard feelings if you're qualified and don't get asked. There's a bunch of others out there who are just as qualified. Make yourself known, just don't do it in an annoying way. Comment on staff members profiles! Be yourself.

Don't suck up, but don't be rude
Be respectful. Please don't kiss our ass. It's so easy to tell... Don't be afraid to disagree with stuff. Play it off kindly

KNOW THE MAP KNOW THE GAME!
If I were to ask you to check our McCormick's bar... would you be able to do that without asking someone? Or what if someone asked you how much Graal VIP is? Or if they needed an Account Transfer, what tinyurl.com link would you give them? If you play Graal enough YOU SHOULD KNOW!

to become a GP must get into one of those staff guilds nobody likes and suck up, like suck up really hard.
i read everything written in bold and i dont know any GP that fits into any of those.

why make a guide though... if the person needs a guide to get his prioritys straight maybe he shouldnt get hired.
i enjoy my peace and quiet. dont see why people want to get hired for more attention. i mean if you got a GFX skill or a LAT skill go for it,but if your only means of attention is to get hired...damn

Talon 01-18-2012 03:01 AM

No disrespect, but most new admins I've seen getting hired are from either Magic, Cruxis, or Zanza. I don't know of many admins that get accepted through the application.

It's like real life - make connections, get hired - and that's a problem.

I also think Graal needs to start hiring (yes, paying) for LATs and scripters. Azrael's done a great job with levels, but a little extra professional help couldn't hurt.

Professional? There's no school or education to become 'professional'

Level design is an actual profession for games, however it's the sort of thing usually divided(at least for larger teams). A layout designer will design the layout of a level in the most barebones structure, ending up with a blueprint of sorts detailing the purpose of the level, the flow, interactions and so on. Then a level artist will go through and design the actual aesthetics of the level around the blueprints laid out from the designer.
