Astram's Mario Game
 

Hey there Graalians!

Plenty of you are probably familiar with me as a a developer quite a few years ago. Graal didn't give me the freedom I wanted in making a game so I decided down the line to create my own games. I'm just getting started with game development and am already pretty advanced in Java as I was working for large Minecraft servers such as Mineplex before.


I have just recently started development of this game only 3 days ago and I'm almost finished with the level editor which is taking most of my time. The game will be built entirely in Java and will be required to be downloaded to be ran (maybe as an Applet in the future). The game will be free to play since it's using Nintendo's graphics.

The most important features of my upcoming game are as follows:

• Online Multiplayer Racing
• Custom level creation
• Player progression
• Custom Servers

This may sound like a dumb question, but, wouldn't there be legal trouble involved with this having direct Mario content? Even just the name Mario is copyrighted I believe.

No. There are tons of Mario fan games out there with Mario in the title name. Most of the games have "Mario is made by Nintendo" to avoid legal trouble and copyright claims. He will be fine.

That's not how copyright laws work at all...

Well anyway. He will have no problem. Nintendo actually urges users to make fan made Mario games. They are not strict when it comes to it. I mean just look at www.mfgg.net , a website full of fan-games and parodies.

Ahem, emulators.

Add a multiplayer battle mode and a ton of playable characters and new power ups and THEN I would be interested.

Emulators and fan-games are completely different. I been on MFGG for awhile now, all the games there are made by fans. None are straight ROMs for emulators.

I would personally think adding multiple characters would be fun, like characters from other nintendo games
