Is PC Graal outdated?

I just realized, Graal, moreso on PC, was built and advertised with a certain something in mind- providing powerful yet simple tools for making mmo games. But since this isn't pre-2007ish anymore I would say that bigger, better, even more accessable engines are out their for a broad range of games. Graal was probably ahead of it's time only for a little bit. Nowadays things like Unreal Engine 4 and RPG Maker MV blow it out of the water.

What do you guys think? Has Graal fallen behind? Does Unixmad need to re-evaluate which direction it should go in?

Graal hasn't really fallen behind as it provides what it is supposed to provide, a 2D MMORPG game.
Yes graal could use more features and such but it'd require a lot of work to compete with those powerful engines and doesn't seem worth it for what graal currently is

I'm more on the fence now that you make your point with this. Especially now that you've brought up the 2D MMORPG thing. Graal certainly needs more flexibility. As it is you kinda HAVE to make it 2D, not only because of performance issues but due to how animations are generally hard to make as seamless as possible, especially on players.

I feel Graal PC is superior to iGraal in many ways except playerbase.

There are some genuinely interesting features to PC Graal that iGraal barely even achieves.

I never really got to play pc graal but I say why not port graal to consoles

Eugeen 11-26-2015 01:11 AM

In theory it's possible to fully recreate the graal engine to a 3D environment with all basic graal features and more, I don't think anyone would ever be willing to code that though as it'd take ages and it'd be quite the waste of time if no money is being made off of it. (Even as application it'd most likely end up as being just another server and have a too low playercount to succesfully progress for multiple years)

Pc graal masterace

GraalOnline wasn't advertised. When people tried to advertise it Unixmad would harass those people until they stopped.

PC Graal was neglected for years which made it difficult attracting new players while old players moved on, the lack of support and dwindling playercount eventually made developers leave, which in turn led to further decreases in the playercount.
It doesn't help that they have to compete with the iServers that have a much larger playercount and are more easily accessible.
I think the pc servers could do well again, but at this point it'd need more than just fixing the client. It is mostly up to if the players decide to stick around or not.
