Social Anxiety

What are your opinions on this disorder?

It's really unfortunate that it causes people to miss out on various opportunities that life presents, given this social inadequacy. Social anxiety isn't inherent to human nature; we're pack animals. Nurture definitely takes precedence in this sense, and it only becomes more evident when I look back at my own childhood.

Discuss.

Eh. I have social anxiety when I know NO ONE in my class. I don't act weird I mean I'll still talk if I got a question. But when I have a class with at least ONE friend, I am the craziest person ever. If I'm in public with a friend I will do honestly anything from the most embarrassing thing you can think of.

Just the way I am :/ ^.^ \:

The solution is to love everyone—and with caution, not reservation. That is, by simply being kind to people around you from time to time, and asking them calmly to pass you something, or how their day is going. Offer them something—but not for anything in return nor to win their approval, but just as a kind gesture sometimes to break some ice; have boundaries, accept them. There really doesn't have to be anything deeper behind it; just cordial courtesy. Keep things at this level with everyone, regardless of who they are; be honest, speak up for yourself when you need to. Smile. Even if you think you are unattractive or something else, you must rework your thoughts to simply believing you are attractive & okay as you are; it isn't your thoughts so much that will destroy you as it is the anxiety of the negative chatter. It takes a lot of energy in your mind to entertain anxiety in ways that should be used for something more positive; think positive, be positive—no matter what you've heard, been told, or how many people you can find who love to argue, present damning evidence, & bully. Build your faith, and it will work out

I have social anxiety but once someone talks to me I can get along with almost anyone

Most of the things that will probably go through your head are along the lines of "what do they think about me?" "why are they laughing?" "I don't want to be here between these people" "avoid contact".
That's mostly what goes through my head but I still somehow manage to go through it by the thought of "screw them all idgaf what they think or do"

I know about you; histrionic personality disorder. You are like a gargoyle; you swing from having personality around strangers to being silent & lifeless. You long to feel emotions, but you hold back & hide behind a veil of extremities. Idealization/demonization; so, rather than express emotions & feel inwardly, you cut yourself, cause drama, amuse yourself with the unfolding, and demean others. In your depression, it is easier to project onto others behind your veil of mirrors where you seduce & deflect your guilt to keep yourself numbed. You might act tough, but you're actually a coward

I just hate how most people self diagnose themselves with it and don't seek actual help when they think they have it.
And how every other status on Classic says "I have 864656562 mental disorders pay attention to me."

This is by far the most intelligent thing I've heard from you.

Must spread rep.

Social Anxiety is the reason I never like to go outside.

Same. Once someone starts a good conversation I just join in

5hift 12-01-2015 02:52 AM

I think my issue is trying to insert myself into a conversation with a group.

The rest of the people just seem to leave me in the dust, pretty sure its my fault for not speaking up though.

Usually depends on the group of people. Don't always have to speak but usually everyone gets a chance to talk.
