Graal 60fps?

Is that a thing? Is it possible? Sorry im sort of new to the whole fps concept and how things work

This may not be true anymore but the response to this used to be that the Graal servers are only capable of processing an action every .05 seconds / 20 times a second which would make anything above 20 fps effectively pointless.

The servers can most definitely handle more, but the game itself is made to only run at 20fps. This is because Zelda Online was originally a browser-game made in Java. Stefan used a Java to C++ converter for a lot of the initial client, so a frame rate cap was probably put in to keep the game running the same. Stefan was probably being lazy when he never changed the frame rate later on, but it really doesn't need to be changed anyways.

iirc graal would basically be running in fast forward mode

It's actually how some speed hacks work.

I think if you really wanted to take advantage of a 60 FPS Graal game, all animations would need additional sprites to make the game look a lot smoother.

Not really. You don't need 24 frames to make a nice walking animation(Graal's walk animation is 8 frames, and 8*3=24), and many games get by with the same amount of frames Graal has. Graal just has terrible animation and Stefan didn't translate the walk animation from Link to the Past very well. He missed some frames entirely and jumbled the ones he did add all up.

Most of the benefits of 60fps comes from much smoother movement--everything seems a lot less jumpy.

Graal at 60ms all the time though, can that be done?
That's the real question.

Hop in your time machine to the Graal v5 era boyo and enjoy your 45-60ms experience. But watch out for those dirty UDP disablers though!
