Venus Williams Car Crash

The Police released the video of the crash, and I'm just wondering what people think, and who they think is at fault. We can't see the traffic lights in the video which makes it that much harder, but I can't get past the fact that Venus appeared to stop well ahead of the car in the opposite direction turning left. I inferred that she stopped because her light turned red, the car turned left because he was possibly controlling the intersection at the time or just wanted to make the light, but then that Venus made a delayed decision to go through the intersection instead of waiting for the light, or because she was already partially in the intersection and thought she had to go through instead of backing up.

Those two cars on the right had already slowed down or was that another lane?

If the Venus was already in the middle of the intersecting then I believe they can go all the way even if the light changes because they can't back up.

I think its a bit tough to say since we can't see the lights or if there are any.

it's her fault for stopping in the middle of an intersection to let a car pass

isn't it illegal to back up at an intersection? I think that the oncoming car should've been watching out. Just because a car shouldn't be in the intersection when it is doesn't mean that you can just ignore it... and it's hard to tell, but could the oncoming car have been speeding a bit? just based off the other cars on the road

overall I'd say that they're both at fault just based off of what we can see

Those two cars on the right stopped for a moment, so they had to have caught the end of a red light, and it must have turned green when they started moving slowly forward again. If that's the case, the car that did the hitting should have slowed down a bit when he saw a red light ahead of him, even if he wasn't there yet. He came through right when the two other cars started going, so he couldn't have been that far from the red light before it changed. If he had slowed down as he should have he would have had time to see the car.

It looks to me that both Venus and the car that was let pass went through at a yellow though, which was what went wrong. Venus gave the right of way to a car going through yellow, which shouldn't be done. If Venus had just went through, the car would have stopped at the yellow, but it felt pressured into not coming to the full stop since Venus was stopping for it.

As for who's at fault, probably Venus for giving the right of way at a yellow. She had plenty of time to go through, but she stopped just because the car probably wasn't at a full stop yet, which was dumb.

Has this exact situation when I crashed my last car, the guy in her position was blamed for it and got fined

I don't think the car that hit Venus was speeding. At the very start of the video, you can see cars in that same direction going by pretty quickly and it looks to be going about the same speed as the car that hit Venus. I also think they may not have seen her considering she was in the back end of the intersection most of the time, then let the car turn left when she had the right of way, and then went through the rest of the intersection. The 2 cars that stopped on the same direction as the car that hit Venus seemed to only stop because the car turning left was going, as if they already had a green light. I think because of Venus stopping for no reason in the middle of the intersection when she had the right of way, it delayed everything by 3+ seconds. Also, when you are waiting to turn left on a solid green light, you control the intersection. The car that hit Venus may have seen that car controlling the intersection turn left as their light turned green, which would make you think the intersection is now clear, and then Venus continued driving through the rest of the intersection.

I just don't get why she let the car turn left before she passed through.

Pretty sure you got it right Pig. It is baffling to me that she let him go by first, she clearly had the right of way. What she should've done, assuming she let the car going left pass first, was back up, I would think. Her light must've turned red by that point, right? Without knowing what colors the lights were it's a tougher challenge, but I think it's her fault nonetheless.
