If I were you, I wouldn't create one, it takes more work than you think. You would need a huge tileset which takes a long time, then you gotta create the levels. Then there's the scripting which you need for stuff you want to make come to life or whatever. The ganis are extremely hard. You need a main sfx for walking into the server(if you want) and so on...

Wicked idea: Create everything offline that you can. This means create all your levels/ graphics and ganis offline. Next, plan your scripting systems: what you want to do, how you will achieve it, style and such. Create an implementation plan. Try and script as much as you can offline.

When it gets to the point you think you're ready, buy the server and go for it. Upload all your content. New players will be impressed by your well structured gmap rather than an isolated town of suck in a sea of green grass. Get your script systems going and boom! You're done!

Saves hosted time :D

In addition to this, it's also best to get the staff team planned out. (This means actually making sure people will work for you, not just writing their name down for staff.)

I will absolutely follow you and Bboy's posts. I was thinking about making a server in the future.

I was thinking I would be able to ask for Testbed access and test scripts on there.

If you do end up buying a server, please don't hire terrible level admins, and when people see their monstrosities say, "Oh, yeah, I was going for a classic style..."

Because I've noticed using a 'Classic' style is in some cases becoming an excuse for a bad level.

I wouldn't hire terrible LAT's don't worry. If I do go for a Classic style then I would atleast create my own Classic tileset, not using the given tileset.

Good boy :D.

Another thing I've noticed is that if you make a tileset, and you make it good, it'll help the server get a lot of people wanting to play. Take Europa for example - it had pretty much no content, all it had was pretty graphics. But I remember around ten people on sometimes, looking at those pretty graphics.

People say, "It's not the graphics that makes a server good - its the content!"
But they still flock to whatever new server is pretty enough for them to like.

Which leads to my belief that graphics can make or break a brand new server.
