A work in progress...
1 Attachment(s)
So school's out for the summer, and it's time for me to make a start on my first official game using C++ and the Allegro 5 library. It's going to be a 2D side-scrolling action game, and I'm very chuffed about it so far.
In this thread, I'll be posting updates on my progress with this game as I go along, which will hopefully allow you to throw in some ideas on what I should do with it because, at the minute, I'm not sure what I should throw into it, heck, I don't even know what to call it yet. I also hope to entice anyone who likes developing and would be happy to help (namely graphics artists, because I absolutely hate spending time drawing things), plus anyone who's half-proficient with C++.
At this moment in time:
- I have coded a tile-based map-rendering system, which is flexible enough to allow for any type of tileset provided I know the dimensions of said tileset.
- Got the basic character display and movement set up (and jumping), which is also flexible enough for easy changing of character sprites provided, again, I know the dimensions.
- Used some placeholders just to demonstrate how the game will look once I get some proper graphics for it. All the flexibility is so I can easily replace the placeholders with proper graphics.
The little picture below shows the game with its placeholder images so far...
