It's really a new day in Classic right now. There's a good developer (Rufus) who is bringing back the "Classic" in "Classic iPhone" and completely devoting himself to improving it, not accepting anything but the best quality, and taking community input under his wing.
All the complainers can rejoice because many of the things they have complained about are finally starting to fade. (Edit: They will probably complain more because that's their personality.)

Not quite sure if you directing the complainer aspect at me or not, but regardless I've certainly appreciated the new content that has been added recently. The archery game was a blast for a few days. The digging games have been fun too. I haven't had a chance to get into any events but I heard they're fun. York town is cool but I've been lazy at doing the daily quest and my guild is dead+I suck at horse races so the town isn't really for me(It's great though!).
As for all the new aesthetics and changes it really gives me the old nostalgic experience of what I played over 2 years ago when everything was being changed and added; cool npcs everywhere, random things looking different, and all that stuff thats teasing new content. I don't care about the new hats but it doesn't hurt to add them and I personally think people overreact about them; they don't have to buy them.
I don't really like them changing how things work like with farming, bombs, and horses, but the changes to the scenery are very exciting.
Quests are really fun while they last if done right, but after being completed are no longer fun as they are only fun the first time.
The events idea is really going in the right direction, however if they we're hosted more often(auto hosting like on era but no fee maybe?)/ more accessible then it would be a massive improvement to the game. Content that is replayable is the best content. Guild forts is replayable and competitive, and it has lasted well over 2 years. Sparring lasted. Houses lasted. customization lasted. hide and seek and all the digging stuff lasted. See a pattern?
