Google Drive: Dropbox has some competition.

So, I've always been a Dropbox user. I use it to store pretty much anything, especially audio files, because it's easy to share with people. Dropbox offers 2 GB of free space when you sign up, and you have the freedom to upload whatever you want, and you can share those files with anybody you want. It also comes with a desktop application so you can manage files from your file browser without even touching a web browser.

I heard yesterday that Google have brought out a similar idea called Google Drive. This offers nearly everything Dropbox offers (storage space, a desktop client, sharing) but it also offers 5 GB of free space instead of the 2 GB Dropbox offers. A downside is that Dropbox offers you the feature to copy public links and send them to friends so they can download that file from a URL, and Google Drive doesn't currently support that.

What do you guys think?

Ooh, Penrose triangle. That's a cool thing for Google to do, I haven't been much into Cloud storage. I've been needing it lately for storing my writing and graphics works. I'll check this out sometime.

Though I wish Drive supported file sharing.

I don't use much online storage, I do use SkyDrive sometimes which is Microsofts version that comes with every hotmail/live account, gives you 7gigs.

The fact it has no public link means it's no competition to Dropbox.

Right now, I agree that it's lacking that very important feature, but I hope to see it in the future.

It's possible, but it's also a pain in the butt.

Well convenience has a lot to do with whether it will be a success or not. If it's not easy to share something then it'll still be worse off. I know I can just drop a file in my dropbox folder and right click it to immediately share it with a friend; if Google can't at least match that then it's no competition.

I do. My original yahoo got hacked, now I only have one for using yahoo answers. I also have a gmail but only because it forced me when google bought out youtube.
I've always used hotmail and I've never had a reason to switch.

I hate how google tries to top everything but always fails.
