I really think it's down to personal preference and maybe a little bit of psychology. I much prefer the swords with the slashing motion rather than the stabbing motion. It just feels better, it's hard to explain.

I agree 100%, I never use stabbing swords because I seem to do worse with them.. so it's definitely a psychological thing
