This is where I make the differentiation between hip hop and rap.
Hip Hop focuses on Lyrics; Rap focuses on beats and caters to dance clubs.

You're getting mixed up. Rap is focused on the spoken word instead of the beat. But that doesn't mean lyrics cant have a good beat that compliments them well. When the beat overpowers the lyrics is when something is wrong.
