This ok, but you're method is flawed. People go through there all the time.

A suggestion: doubling backwards and going through the side streets is ok. Sometimes you pass an area because nothing is there, however the items are about to respawn. And, most people avoid the middle chunk inside the city. There are good spots in there if you look hard.
