Favourite skylines?
What city has your favourite skyline? I like most cities that have a mix of slick, modern buildings, and older skyscrapers, and look... together. Meaning, they aren't all scattered around, with wide spaces between them, and then a sudden drop-off into normal two-story shop streets. They need to look like a city, for me, and the backdrop matters a lot too.
My favourites would be...
Auckland)
It isn't the biggest in the world, nor with the tallest buildings, but I love the way the Sky Tower stands out like that, and the way you can see Rangitoto (a volcano) in the harbour.
Wellington)
Yeah, another New Zealand city. I know I'm patriotic. Again, it isn't the highest in the world, but I love the way it suits the harbour perfectly.
Vancouver)
Some of the buildings themselves are ugly as hell, but the mountains behind the skyline are awesome. We have these huge buildings, but they're still dwarfed by the mountains. It's kind of on the verge of looking cluttered and ugly, but not yet.
New York)
Manhattan just fits together perfectly. It's internationally recognized, and... amazing. Strange, though, I couldn't find any decent photos.
Hong Kong)
Hong Kong is another city that fits together perfectly, and, again, I love the mountains in the background.
As for other cities... Tokyo looks too cluttered for my taste, and both Dubai and London are too sparse. Doha City in Qatar has some amazing buildings, but they need some more to fill in the gaps. I hate that thing sticking out in Shanghai. I dislike Beijing.
Other cities I like, but I'm too lazy to find pictures of, are Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, and Perth. Singapore is amazing. Gold Coast I love for the way it's all lined up on the beach. Most Australian cities are really good. Chicago seems awesome, and I love all the old ones.
Yours?
