If we are talking punk I would say the stooges as they started
Proto punk along with new york dolls. The pistols are definitly up there. Another punk band that has influenced mainstream bands is the descendants. Same for screeching weasel.

Your out of your mind if you think nirvana started grunge. They just made it popular.
But still great band.
