Did you follow directions on how to transfer data between two 360 HDD's? I imagine there are tons online. Try hooking it up to your 360 and seeing if the 360 has an option to format the HDD. Usually devices like 360's, phones and such that format will properly format it and give it any necessary files for successful use with the device.
I can't imagine you ever needing to hook up to a PC for this process, but admittedly I haven't looked it up at all. Why couldn't you just hook it up via USB to the 360 and transfer the data and then just install it?

Believe me I have searched and searched for the right tutorial, but so many are for the slim. I think the thing I did wrong was not have the new Xbox 360 hard drive plugged into the Xbox and have the old one plugged into the transfer cable. Although, if it asked me to configure my 60GB hard drive I would have had the same problem and not been able to transfer. I don't get the format option on my Xbox because when I plug it into my Xbox it isn't recognized as a hard drive. When it's plugged in through the transfer cable I don't have the option to format. I wanted to reformat it to it's original state using the computer since the Xbox 360 couldn't, but sadly that didn't work either. I don't know whether to buy a new one and gamble that it will work if I reverse what I did last time or to frustrate myself more attempting to fix this damn thing.
