if they will make it the default way (at least i think its the default version), you will have less hearts the lower your ap is, even though you can actually have more. hard to explain right now, but heres a quick example:

your ap is 80+: you will have the full amount of hearts you have obtained so far
your ap is 50+: you will have half the amount of hearts you have obtained so far
your ap is ~10: you will only have 3 hearts, as thats the minimum
