Society only places this so called "master status" on people when they do things similar to things in the right column of my earlier post because, to be frank, it's simply annoying. I have several friends who are gay (In fact, the coolest person I have ever met is a professor at Eastman School of Music who is in fact homosexual), and I have no problem with them because they don't find it necessary to define their ENTIRE personality on the fact that they are gay. (I call people who do define their entire identity by their homosexuality "fabulous").
I don't know where you live, but there is quite a high population of "fabulous" individuals here in the New York City area. Its fabulous people's inappropriate behavior I have an issue with.

A master status isn't given to somebody optionally. It's automatically given to somebody because they are/have done something that is abnormal or unusual (or even different from yourself) This 'behavior' you're talking about most likely comes from societies ignorance towards homosexuals.
