It's fine. I've been doing this for months, and no effect. (Not that I can see.)

If you get caught, that's not "fine". Several NPCs are used to hide certain roadmaps or do such stuff, it is illegal to do so.
Btw editing gani data is strictly forbidden somewhere in the ToS.
