Does Katawa Shoujo count as a dating sim?

Katawa Shoujo would be considered a visual novel.
I've played a few dating sims on PSP like Tokimeki Memorial 4 but most dating sims on there are more like visual novels or idol games. Harvest moon Back to Nature and Hero of Leaf Valley act much like a dating sim though.
