You can't keep them. They have a respawn time after being on the ground too long. There's a glitch where if you have two footballs and keep throwing them in one place you can create a fake football. The fake football is normal until it is thrown. It disappears upon contact with the ground. I think this would make a nice furniture item because you can make a lot of games with this.
