That is a really broad and daring statement. I think when hiring, you WOULD want to hire someone who wants to actually be in the position. Regarding this threads situation, that statement is understandable because most don't realize what being a GP/PR require and entail. But to say that just because someone asks means they should not be hired is really baffling to me. You don't get hired in real life without asking for an application or an interview. I always found it beneficial to show great interest in a place or business if you wish to work there.

You're absolutely correct in saying that such inquiry is necessary for a real-life position, and it may even be necessary nowadays in the iOS servers-- I don't know, I'm not well versed on iOS etiquette, and, to be frank, I'm too stuck on Old-School PC Graal values to learn.
Perhaps my take on the matter is due to my upbringing on PC Era.
I never seen somebody running their own popularity poll prior to iOS servers-- This is an entirely new-school fad that I deem as nothing more than weeding themselves from the cut of potential candidates. If somebody were to run such a poll where I come from, they would never be taken seriously.
This said, efforts to achieve rank in my eyes that deserve recognition are efforts that are applicable to the job one is interested in. Myself, for example: I was originally hired as an Era GP back in 2006. I never asked for it, I never even wanted to be a GP. I found an exploit with the treadmills, and exploited it for about 7 months. The second I seen somebody else do it, I reported it, and offered the solution to fix it. Instead of using my proposed remedy, Vulcan simply told me to "get on RC." Thanks to my curiosity and tinkering in Offline editor, I got on, patched it up, tested it to make sure it flagged properly, and that was it. My RC was never removed until I resigned in 2008.
By this time,2006, I had been banned over 16 times, on over 12 different accounts. It was this experience in glitch abuse that got me hired. I was Era's version of Neal Caffrey. The plan was to hire the best exploiter to catch crooks, and to find exploits before anybody else did; and it worked well. Eventually, the title 'Gang Admin' was added to my rank, again, due to my history-- Being boss of Black Holst from 2004 to 2007. And I was awarded the title of the first "Guns Admin" for my contrasts of "old school PKing" vs "new school PKing", highlighting the fact that the subject matter in the latter was declining.
The rest, of course, you fellas are already aware of. I joined iEra's team as a Guns Admin in 2012 because of my success as PC Era's Guns Admin four years prior. It was always my experience that gave me my rank. This is why I say that asking, and inquiring is unnecessary. Real recognizes real, at the end of the day. The most qualified candidate does it for the enjoyment, not for the status, and certainly not for the fame. Even when I had the rank, I spent the majority of my time playing the game. I love basing, I love sparring, and I love PKing. That, my friend, is where I come from.
Sorry I didn't explain further in my initial post.
