allow players full access to all different fundamentals and let the class boost the effectiveness of the feature. So if I were a "Commando" I could still use a medic bot, but it wouldn't be as strong and effective as someone who is a "Medic" and is using a medic bot.

I agree with this, I'd much rather have some kind of perk system then classes, so you have more flexibility with the way you play and you can create some kind of a counter to each other.
I hate to say it, but one of the reasons behind Call of Duty's success is likely the fact that you don't have fixed classes (you can create your own) but the fact that there are a range of perks you can choose from, and you're given the ability to create custom classes.
