When you read it's manga, and when you watch it's anime.

I advose you go check out that other thread 'Recommend some anime' people there have posted some great animes.

What kind of stuff are you into non anime wise? Action? Horror? Comedy? It's always good to start off with something you feel comfortable with.

I think the first anime I finished was probably Death Note lol, a very good must see anime, and if you're into crime and psychology I strongly advise that, but it's down to preference.
