Apparently suicide is no longer a crime under modern US law? O.o

Under modern U.S. law, suicide is no longer a crime. Some states, however, classify attempted suicide as a criminal act, but prosecutions are rare, especially when the offender is terminally ill.

Also, I'd like to give my 2 cents.
I've suffered from anxiety and depression for quite a while now, and I went through a stage where I genuinely considered taking my own life, and I can safely say that it's one of the most atrocious things I've had to go through in my entire life. Obviously, I didn't (hey I'm Emera, I'm still here ranting on Graalians) but I strongly feel that making suicide an offense by law is just ****ing ridiculous.
If somebody is that unhappy with their life, or are going through a stage of depression that's progressed to a point where they feel they can't handle it anymore, that they feel the only way out is to take their own life, I can't think of a worse course of action that prosecuting somebody for it. If anything, they need professional help, not a damn jail sentence. It amazes me that it used to be an offense.
