guilds are like groups. There are many different types of guilds:
1.War guilds (ones who only go after guild forts)
2.Social guilds (ones who talk with others)
3.School guilds (ones that act like its really a high school/pre-school)
4.Role-Players Guilds (ones that role plays with others)
5.Lots of others guilds (Like this guild, support guild, development guild,etc.)

Don't think guilds is all about towers. It does sound like it but its not
