I really like all the character development going on:

Korra maybe isn't getting much, but it is exploring the dynamic of her attitude issue conflicting with being the avatar. It's also exploring the issues of sheltering her, and the tensions going on with her family. More importantly, they're developing Aang's children, and implying that Aang possibly wasn't all that great of a dad.

What I'm liking the most so far is the focus on the balance between the emerging modern world and the connection to the spirit world. I wasn't really a fan of the whole equalists deal in the first season, so this is an improvement. It's starting to seem more like an actual sequel to ATLA, which is why I started watching it in the first place.
