This will just be a
small rant list of stuff that I don't like about the community of "iClassic"
Part of the iClassic community is unbelievably and unbearably immature. This is often shown through the character and conduct of some of the players that you will encounter in the server. They will send you rude messages at random, accuse you of "hacking" if you kill them, and ask you to have "sex" with them (I'm not even sure of how this is performed). Actually, that's only a little bit of the extremely irritating **** that goes on. They will harass you until you block them, offer to "farm gralats for free" in (generally bad) attempts to scam you, say senseless **** when you try to talk to them or respond to what they're saying to you, and ask absolutely inane questions. I think that's about it.
Here's what I'm talking about.
The (spar-related) raging
Some iClassic players have remarkably short tempers and will regularly resort to accusing you of hacking or other ridiculous BS if you win against them in sparring. This does come about, but I could only find and record one instance of it happening. This is probably because the people that I'm talking about don't normally spar, for whatever reason.
Excuse my awful image editing
The relationship role-playing and "online dating"
This is what I find most irritating: relationship role-playing. Don't get me wrong; I love to role-play, but not the way iClassic does it. They seem to believe that Graal is a virtual dating game or online dating service. This might not be so horrible if they didn't seem to take their online love affairs so seriously.
The worst part is that the developers have actually introduced marriage to the server. Now, not only can you show off in your status that you have a lovely online boyfriend or girlfriend, you can show it in your
name [Ex: ZyKo (Married to: Tabs)] and summon your beloved companion whenever you like. I find it annoying that the devs are actually encouraging this, as it only adds to the amount of people in Graal City that idle with the message, "SINGLE PLS MARRY ME," above their heads.
Baby role-playing
The second piece of the role-playing scene in Graal is baby role-playing. Players will dress their avatars as babies, speak like babies, and PM anyone near them, asking those people to be their parents. While this sounds stupid, which it is, it's not even half as bad as relationship role-playing, as they are usually confined to the adoption center (located right of Taylor Richaards' building).
OMG RUDE
They are terribly rude. They will, ironically, call everyone in sight a noob and send rude messages to anyone, because, well, I don't know why. Spooon is funny, but this is just aggravating.
The code shops
Code shops are player houses which have been fitted with signs, each sign showing a sword or shield filename. The owner of the house will make you farm a few gralats for him/her before allowing you to see the signs. This wouldn't be a horrible idea if it weren't for the numerous websites that show thousands of sword/shield filenames.
Here are just a few of them:
Code shop advertisers literally make up about a quarter of idle players on the map. You
can not walk through Graal City without seeing one.
The administrative position chasing
This happens in almost every online community, but I have never seen people pursue administrative positions more intensely than the denizens of iClassic. I'm sure that you know what I'm talking about, as we've all done it at some point in the past, but I'm sure that you also know how awfully idiotic it can be. I'm not an administrator, so I don't have to deal with these people, but simply seeing them do it makes me cringe. Regardless of how many times the GP team tells them that the only way to gain their consideration is to send in an application, they won't stop trying.
Some players are extraordinarily pretentious. They think that people care about their **** and that everyone
should care about their ****. I'm guessing that this is why they spam their **** everywhere.
In conclusion
Thankfully, these players don't stick around for long. Unfortunately, there are always new ones coming in. For the record, I'm not saying that everyone in iClassic is like this, but the lion's share of 8-11 year-old players are.
This, I believe, is why iClassic can be so ****ty. I wouldn't have quit three times if it weren't for these people and I know, for a fact, that a good part of the community would still be around if it weren't for these people. I'm usually told to ignore them, but it's a little hard to ignore the mass gathering of people who are spamming as you're walking through Graal City. It's even harder to ignore the dolts that you run into when you're trying to organize a guild to take a tower or when you're just looking to hang out with someone.
I realize that what I've just said is a bit exaggerated, but I needed to vent. In retrospect, I can understand why the people that I've mentioned do what they do in-game. Being only 14 years old, I was exactly like them, not so long ago. I'm sure that they'll look back at what they said and did in the game and elsewhere online in a couple of years and realize that it
was completely inane. Hell, I might look back at this post in two years and think to myself, "Damn, why did I even bother to write that?"
It's forgivable, but annoying as hell.
A few notes:
- This was originally posted on the Graal Reborn forums
- I posted this here because, being that they don't play iClassic, the folks on Reborn can't really appreciate what I'm saying.
- This is not aimed at "Graalians" or the people who contribute to this forum
- What I said about RP relationships was kind of stupid. A lot of people keep it to themselves and the marriage system isn't abused at all. I left it in there, anyway.
- I realize that code shops can be useful if they provide preview images
- This doesn't sum up my entire opinion of the community. I don't even begin to talk about the great times that I've had on iClassic and the good people that I've met.
- I'm sorry that this is so disjointed. My writing skills aren't that great.
- I'm not sure if I put this in the right category or not
