I would think if the map was clear enough and had like a big old red X on the dig spot the diving dots wouldn't be needed good idea tho.

Maybe there could also be an item to complement or go with the treasure maps. Like a "metal detector" that would act as a sensor and would tell you that a chest is near bye in the form of a pop up message. It would be similar to the goggles where you would mearly have to have it in your possession to gain the benefit.
