However IMHO I would like to see the GST's be more for fun then just to see which guild or team with the best spar stats is the best sparrers. That's why we have the same teams winning time after time every 3-4 months. I would much rather form a team with my friends and go against other "thrown together" teams of friends. This is why I suggest a separate novice or open type of tournament.

I'm not sure what would be the correct way to split into a major and minor league. The minor league would still be competitive with each other, and try to sneak in pro players just like real life. The best way to beat sparrers in a tournament is to have something other than a spar tournament. :p
