Depends on what you're using it for. It wasn't meant as an alternative way to place furniture, but to streamline the process of laying down a lot of the same things like railroads or note blocks. It's also useful when you realize it maintains the same information as the furniture you're copying. Once you get a few pieces of railroad down for instance, you can just copy the pieces for the directions you need rather than copying/changing the direction each time.

Yes I did notice the railroad aspect... that is handy.
Also, placing items like flowers or chairs (things that one tends to get a large number of) it does assist. When I said that it was touchy, what I meant was that the 'hold' time when clicking is a little long, but maybe that's because I'm on PC? It might be essential when using touch screen...
